“We Plough the Fields and Scatter” by Matthias Claudius

HymnWePloughTheFields_BlogHeader_11.26

We plow the fields and scatter
The nice seed on the land,
However it’s fed and watered
By God’s almighty hand.
God sends the snow in winter,
The heat to swell the grain,
The breezes and the sunshine
And smooth, refreshing rain.

All good items round us are despatched from heav’n above.
We thank You, God, we thank You, God, for all Your love.

You solely are the Maker
Of all issues close to and much.
You paint the wayside flower;
You gentle the night star.
The winds and waves obey You;
By You the birds are fed.
Way more, to us, Your youngsters,
You give our each day bread.

We thank You, then, Creator,
For all issues vivid and good,
The seedtime and the harvest,
Our life, our well being, our meals.
Settle for the items we provide
For all Your love imparts
And what You most would welcome:
Our humble, grateful hearts.
