Come down, O love divine, search Thou this soul of mine,
And go to it with Thine personal ardor glowing.
O Comforter, draw close to, inside my coronary heart seem,
And kindle it, Thy holy flame bestowing.

O let it freely burn until earthly passions flip
To mud and ashes in its warmth consuming;
And let Thy wonderful mild shine ever on my sight,
And dress me spherical, the whereas my path illuming.

Let holy charity mine outward vesture be
And lowliness grow to be mine inside clothes,
True lowliness of coronary heart, which takes the humbler half,
And o’er its personal shortcomings weeps with loathing.

And so the craving sturdy, with which the soul will lengthy,
Shall far outpass the facility of human telling;
For none can guess its grace until he grow to be the place
Whereby the Holy Spirit makes His dwelling.
