Rejecting Ambition and Embracing the Name: You Do not Get to Select Your Ministry

We don’t observe a lifestyle; we observe an individual. A residing, respiratory, energetic, and dynamic God we name Jesus Christ. This has severe implications for what sort of ministry we get ourselves in and whether or not we depart the ministry we’re in. Our opinion, preferences, and wishes aren’t paramount; we should be taught to give up our will to His.

An atheist Chinese language businessman I used to be speaking to demonstrated extra understanding of following Jesus than many Christians I’ve met: “I simply assume, if I grew to become a Christian, I must observe God and do what He needed me to do as a substitute of what I need to do. It will be giving up management of my life.”

Exactly.

The excellent news is, he’s probably on his approach there. As our dialog reached its conclusion, I informed him, “When folks ask me these sorts of questions, I at all times imagine God already has a maintain on them and that it’s only a matter of time earlier than they grow to be a Christian. It’s inevitable.”

“Sure, I feel you’re proper. It most likely is inevitable that I grow to be a Christian.” (Be at liberty to wish a prayer that God will proceed to drag W. alongside.)

As this atheist understands, we Christians are usually not known as primarily to a lifestyle or a set of beliefs; we’re known as to a individual who has his personal will and directs us in line with his functions. To embrace Jesus’ private name—an actual name, to an actual particular person, to an actual and particular work—means we reject our personal private ambition. In any other case, we’re not free to answer his name.
