Racing With Thankfulness – Kristin Sterk

The cheers have been loud, as we stepped out onto our deck this morning and remembered that our city’s turkey trot run was taking place on the finish of our street. Some walkers, some runners, all working in direction of the identical objective – the large yellow banner that went up and over our fundamental downtown avenue. I used to be dropping Mazy off at church for the church service and in addition our youth group’s pancake fundraiser breakfast. And myself, steering away from the crowds as my sickness-fighting numbers are nonetheless extremely low, sipping some scorching water to calm the cough I’ve been combating for weeks.

All on completely different paths by life. All with completely different functions. All with hopefully one objective – to serve our Savior by our journeys, no matter they might be.

This Thanksgiving seems a bit completely different than anticipated. It’ll be quiet and reflective. I’ve shed a number of tears figuring out what at the moment would seem like as a most cancers affected person, however at the moment I awakened grateful for an additional day. One other alternative to serve God, even from the confines of my own residence. Grateful for breath. Grateful for household. For pals. For the folks I’ve met alongside life’s journey. Alongside this most cancers journey too.

Thankfulness isn’t circumstantial. It’s a perspective.

And I would like my perspective at the moment, to be considered one of gratitude for the reward of life. For the reward of everlasting life. For the reward of having the ability to be right here on this earth, to serve our risen King. Now we have one objective in life as Christians – to run our race effectively and on the end line be informed, “Properly carried out, good and devoted servant.” (Matthew 25:23)

How effectively are you operating your race? I do know I may decide up the tempo a bit. Regardless of the place you might be at, God is there, cheering you on, operating with you, and should our eyes at all times look to Him with gratitude for this reward of one other day.
