“The center is deceitful above all issues” means those that really love the satan and hate God might imagine exactly the other—that they love God and hate the satan. However Puritan Richard Baxter invitations us to suppose slightly extra deeply and study our hearts to indicate how we could also be deceiving ourselves. In the beginning of this Lenten season, let’s use his reflections to check our hearts to see if there isn’t a little bit of hatred towards God and love of the Satan.

Baxter factors out that no person, or a minimum of only a few, really love the satan’s cruelty in tormenting others or hating others (although you could possibly discover even these, most likely not amongst those that suppose they’re believers).
