“Fill Thou My Life” by Horatius Bonar

Fill Thou my life, O Lord my God,
In each half with reward,
That my entire being could proclaim
Thy being and Thy methods.
Not for the lip of reward alone,
Nor e’en the praising coronary heart,
I ask, however for a life made up
Of reward in each half!
Reward within the frequent phrases I communicate,
Life’s frequent seems to be and tones,
In fellowship in fireplace and board
With my belovèd ones;
Not within the temple crowd alone,
The place holy voices chime,
However within the silent paths of earth,
The quiet rooms of time.
Fill each a part of me with reward;
Let all my being communicate
Of Thee and of Thy love, O Lord,
Poor although I be, and weak.
So shalt Thou, Lord, from me, e’en me,
Obtain the glory due;
And so shall I start on earth
The tune eternally new.
So shall every worry, every fret, every care
Be became a tune,
And each winding of the way in which
The echo shall lengthen;
So shall no a part of day or evening
From sacredness be free
However all my life, in each step,
Be fellowship with Thee.
