The Grace to Carry My Head Low

This week concludes our sequence of Lent devotionals. I hope you’ve loved the chance to spend a number of weeks considering the gravity and pleasure of what this week on the Christian calendar represents.
“Then the troopers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the entire Roman cohort round Him. They stripped Him and put a scarlet gown on Him. And after twisting collectively a crown of thorns, they put it on His head” (Matthew 27:27-29a).
The hassle we put money into “dressing up” for Easter is nearly comically at odds with what Easter actually represents, no less than in accordance with Richard Rolle, a hermit from the early fourteenth century. It’s tough to problem his perspective after we examine Jesus’ apparel throughout the Ardour with the meticulous care we take to impress others at this time.
Whereas now we have glamorized the well-known “crown of thorns,” it was a merciless and excruciating mockery, significantly insulting to 1 who actually deserved to put on a crown of gold and diamonds. The scarlet gown is nearly actually the sort worn by Roman army or civilian officers. In fact, there would have been loads of these mendacity round.
